We arrived Jabiru at 11.30. We didn't spot the Bowali Tourist Information Centre on the way to Jabiru. We called into Scenic Air Charter to get some information as we had the van on and didn't want to go back out to Bowali Info Centre. They were really good, and even thought we had decided not to do a flight here, we did and it was really worth it. It was probably one of the best trips we have done in that it really gave a great overview Kakadu. The flight was 1 hour and it took us over the e east ancient rock formations of Arnham Land. Then we tracked along the East Alligator River siting crocodiles on the mud flats. We turned east over the giant flood plains of Kakadu. At times we were only 500 metres off the ground, where water still covered vast areas of the plains. We then began returning to Jabiru via the flood plains, over the Ranger Uranium Mine and the township of Jabiru.
After this exhilarating plain ride we headed off to Merle Campground at Ubbir. It was $20.00 and has good showers and toilets. No power. Oh and the mossies were fierce after sunset. Other than that a really good place to stay. We went up to Ubbir Rock and watched the most magnificent sunset. We then went home and had tea and read our books.
