We left Perth on Monday 8th October to travel home. The trip home was reasonably quick as we had not seen our family for 8 months and had also found out recently that my daughter is pregnant. We are very excited and have got to the stage where we just want to be closer to our children and our family.
We did have to spend an extra 2 nights in Ceduna as we had to get a new Starter Motor. Thank goodness it didn't break while we were on the Nullabor with temperatures of 38C plus. We arrived at Conjola on the 8th and the following day we arrived home to see our children, their partners and our beautiful grand-son. A wonderful holiday and some time soon we will do it again, and see the things we didn't see this time.

Went shopping and returned home. It was a very hot day, 35c so we had a swim and then a lay down. Michelle and Garry had invited us over for tea tonight. Had a great time. We didn't get home until 12.30pm. Their house is lovely. They have put a pool on and are erecting brick walls etc.

TUESDAY 20TH TO MONDAY 25TH OCTOBER
Spent this time visiting family and friends.
DRIVE TO SEE WILD FLOWERS OF WA
Drive to have a look at the wild flowers which were flowering in abundance. We also went into Gingin and had a look around a very tidy town. Also had a look at the cemetery in the church grounds in the main street. It was a very cold day so we went home and snuggled up around the fire. First time we have used it in a long time. Leaving tomorrow for Perth.
WILDFLOWERS
Went for a drive to have a look at the Wild Flowers. They were in abundance. Absolutely gorgeous. We also went to the Pinnacles and has a walk around. These were pretty amazing also. We also drove around them. Took lots of photos.
NEW NORCIA
Saturday we went to New Norcia and did a 2 hour tour of the monastery. There are only eight monks practicing there at the moment. I think there in decline. It was very nice. The garage is even owned by the monks as well as a hotel. Two defrocked monks set it up and it still serving meals and alcohol. We had lunch there as it was our wedding anniversary. Went home and had tea.
WILLOWBROOK FARM NEAR GINGIN
Stayed hear for 3 nights. It was a lovely stay with great owners. Really made you feel at home. Friday night we had a BBQ and met some of the other campers. Camped next to a couple who live near my sister. What a small world it is.
DONGARRA
Arrived at Dongarra about 10.30 and decide to stay the night. After we had set the van up we went for to Port Denison and had a look at the Lighthouse and the view over Port Denison. We then drove out to the old monastery that has been brought and turned into a pub and accommodation. It is quite run down, but I believe it has Heritage Listing. Maybe they might do it up, in which case it would be beautiful. Went home and relaxed.
STOCKYARD GULLY CAVES
We drove to Stockyard Gully Caves. Interesting 4WD drive trip along a sandy road. Took our torches and had a look at the 250 metre cave. It is is open at either end with lots of bees, and very dark in the centre of the cave. At the moment it is only covered in sand but when it rains it gets a river running through it. Had lunch at the entrance to the cave and then drove home via the wild flowers. They are absolutely beautiful and very abundant.

JURIENNE BAY
Travelled to Juriene Bay. Set van up and then walked along the beachfront. Also did some grocery shopping. Arrived back at van and had tea.

GERALDTON CRAFT FAIR AND DRAGON BOAT RACES
We left the van and went into town to have a look at the markets and then went down the waterfront to have a look at the Dragon Boat races. They were interesting to watch them challenge other boats to see who could get to the buoys at the other first. We then went up to the Netball centre for a Craft Stall. Lots of quilting at very reasonable prices, candles, baby, wear and lots of other craft items. Got home around 1pm and watched Parramatta lose to Storm. We then decided to go to the movies and see Mao's Last Dancer. It was a great movie and seeing that I had just read the book it was really well timed.
GERALDTON MUSEUM
We left the caravan and went to Rivers to buy Les some shirts, thongs and a jacket for me. Then we went to the most beautiful Quilt shop. If you couldn't find what you wanted there then I don't think it exists. We had lunch on the waterfront and read a book for a while. We then went to the museum which had exhibits of the Batavia and a the HMAS Sydney. Also had exhibits on wrecks of the West Australia coast. Very informative exhibition. Arrived home and went to have drink with out neighbours who were camped behind us.
GERALDTON
Left Murchison River this morning and got to Geraldton about 10.30am. We went to the Tourist Info centre and found out that we should stay for a few days. We got accomodation at Sunset Big 4 Caravan Park. We went up to the Memorial to the HMAS SYDNEY which is situated on top of a hill overlooking the waterfront. It is an excellent memorial. It has 645 sea gulls surroundin a dome structure. We then drove around to have a look at the waterfront and town.
MURCHISON RIVER /GALENA BRIDGE
We left Denham and stayed at the Murchison River overnight. The camp was called the Galena Bridge campsite and was a great Freebie. About 25 vans were there and it was a nice spot to stay.

OCEAN PARK
We were going to have a look at the boarded walk way on the Tourist Rd, however as it was so windy we decided to have at look ay Ocean World. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Had turtles, many different types of fish, sharks which the guide fed, after he went and got his finger bandaged from a fish biting it. He tried to feed a Stingray and a fish came up and bit him. WHOOPS !!!! HE DID TELL EVERYONE NOT TO PUT YOU HANDS IN THE TANK. I GUESS HE DIDN'T LISTEN TO HIS OWN ADVICE. We also saw Eels and Snakes. Arrived home and had a late lunch. I had a sleep and Les read his book. I finished the blog.
MONKEY MIA @ FRANCOIS PERON HOMESTEAD
We moved van to new site and then went over to Monkey Mia. We thought that you could see the beach and town. However when we arrived we found that you have to pay to get into the whole area. As we weren't fussed on seeing the dolphins, we moved onto the F.P Homestead. The Homestead was very interesting with shearind sheds, homestead and a artesian heated pool. Except the fact that it was 44 degrees centigrade, it was OK. TOO HIT FOR US THOUGH!!!!!! We went back to town and had pie and coffee at the bakery. GOODNESS ITS RAINING!!!!!! FIRST TIME SINCE ALICE SPRINGS. We then went to the Tourist Info Centre and looked at the exhibition on Shark Bay. Pretty good, and filled in the afternoon, out of the wind and rain.
DENHAM
Left Carnarvon this morning and headed towards Denham. The wind is a problem at the moment. I believe Wollongong had a few days of red skies and red dust from inland. Les told relatives that he'd been kicking up the dirt out here 4WD driving, and the wind blew east. We arrived here at 4.00pm to be told we weren't booked in until Tuesday. They managed to find a spot in between 2 cabins for the night. As it was a long week-end, not sure what for, we settled in for the night.
QUOBBA BLOWHOLES@ QUOBBA STATION
Friends took us for a tour of the Quobba Blowholes. This was really good. A rugged looking coastline with the best Blowholes I've seen. The coast was etched away with the constant tide, and then a wall of rock some 30 metres high behind it. The waves were crashing on the rock platform, and up onto to back rock wall. Great to watch. Beside the rock platform was the Blowhole. There were several smaller holes with one major hole. The force behind these was enormous. Imagine the force of the ocean coming up through a small hole. WHOOSH!! WHOOSH!! Kiama Blowhole has nothing on this.!!!!! We then went out to Quobba Station. A privately owned farm that is also open to visitors wanting accomodation or camping sites. I'd have to say the accomodation was pretty ordinary, more the fisherman than the suburban family. However camping would have been okay, especially if you liked to fish. We then headed home via a coffee house our friends had attended. However we arrived as it was closing, so we went home and had afternoon tea there.
SHOPPING AND SIGHT SEEING
Rang Tanya this morning to wish her a Happy Birthday. She was going out for Lunch with Sarah and Jaimee. Hope they had a great time together. We went up town to get Les's licence sorted out and do some shopping. We then went to have a look at One Mile Jetty, which isn't 1 mile as someone had burnt it in half. It is now two half mile jetties. It was blowing a gale so we didn't bother to walk out. We then went to have a look at the marina with waterfront blocks. It looks like it will be quite nice when finished. However some of the houses face the strong westerly wind. I don't think you would be able to open your front door without getting blown through the back door. Other than that it looked okay. We then went and brought some Prawns and decided to find somewhere to eat them. We nearly got blown half way across the waterfront, and I was hanging onto a post while I ate the prawn roll with my other hand. We decided it might be better back at Wintersun, at least a little bit less windy. We had a drink with some friends and then went home to cook tea. Les watched the final of the footie. However now that the Dragons are out, he's still a little dissapointed there not in the Grand Final.
WINTERSUN AT CARNAVON
Arrived at Wintersun Caravan Park in Carnavon at 1pm. Met our friends at the gate as they were going up town as we arrived. They made us lunch as they just brought bread rolls. Had a game of Bowls at the Bowling Green that is situated at Wintersun. Friends did a B.B.Q and had previously invited us over. Had a great night talking about the guys work history and our travels. Had a great day, and our friends made us feel so welcome.

KAYAKING AND SNORKEL
We went for a Kayak trip today for 2 hours. Saw lots of corals and fish. Headed toward the large coral reef, and the boats moored at the end of the beach. A bit tough paddling out. I had to get the Captain Les to slow down a bit so I could keep up with him. On the way back, it was easy. The current took us right into shore, to the hirer's hut. Had lunch and then Les went for a snorkel, while I had a rest. We tidied up the van as we are leaving tomorrow to go to Carnarvon. Our friends are there, and we are staying 3 nights.
QUAD BIKE RIDE AND SNORKELLING AT OYSTER BRIDGE AND THE LAGOON
Left van and walked up to where we had to meet the guide for our Quad Bike Ride. Les and I shared a Quad bike as we saved $45. I went to the shop yesterday to buy myself a wetsuit as it's a little cold in the deeper water. I'm not quite sure what happened. Les came out with a wetsuit and I didn't. Six bikes accompanied us on a ride along the foreshore to Oyster Bridge. We got our snorkeling gear on and went in the water. This was a nice spot to snorkel as you walked in the water and snorkeled about 10 feet of the shore. Amazing sight to see, and the water was so clear. We then went along a bush track, which went up and down and around and about to a lovely place called called The Lagoon. We went snorkeling again out about 100metres and around the back of the coral. This was great also. We thoroughly enjoyed this ride. We then returned to Coral Bay. A great 3 hours. We would do this again. Went home and had lunch and rested for the afternoon.
SNORKELLING AT PARADISE BEACH
We got up and decided it was good for snorkeling. We went to Paradise Beach which is a short walk from our campsite and was recommended to Les by the dive shop. We went out to the first line of coral and snorkeled amongst the blue and purple hard corals. We also saw colourful fish like blue damsels, long toms, parrot fish, by-coloured fish. Absolutely amazing. I have only snorkeled once before at Lady Musgrove offshore from 1770. This was equally as beautiful and I am really enjoying snorkeling the reefs. We returned home and had lunch. I fell asleep and Les went up to the BBQ area and went on the computer. We had fish for tea. YUM YUM !!!!!!
CORAL BAY
Left Exmouth at 9am and went up the street to a have look at the shops and then went to Kailis's to buy fish before driving to Coral Bay. We don't have sight booked until Wednesday. Just hoping they have some unpowered sites, which we couldn't book ahead. Arrived at 1.00pm and they have given us an unpowered site for 2 nights. In fact it is a really great site, with a great view of the bay. We set up and went for a walk around the shops and beach to orientate ourselves. Had Prawns for tea. YUM !!!
No T.V so we did some reading.

SNORKELLING AND PACKING VAN
We went for a drive to Lakeside to have a Snorkel. But when we arrived it was very choppy so I decided not to go in. Les decided to go to Oyster Stacks to snorkel.
I sat on the rocks and read a book. A couple we met in Alice Springs arrived. It's quite amazing how you keep running into people along the way. We went home and packed up and then had a drink with our friends before they moved on to Carnarvon and us to Coral Bay tomorrow.
SNORKELLING AND PRAWN LUNCH
Les went snorkelling at Torquise Bay this morning. I went up the shops and brought some bits an pieces for tea. Our friends that played Bowls with us came over and had tea. Garlic prawns and Seafood. YUM YUM !!!!! Les watched the Steelers lose their Final 24 to 10 against the Brisbane. WHOOPS HE WASN'T A VERY HAPPY CHAPPY.
SIGHT SEEING DRIVE.& DINNER AT WHALERS
We took some friends for a drive to Shothole Canyon where the seismologists set off charges to record geological findings. This is a drive along the bottom of the canyon. We then went to Charles Knife Gorge, which is drive along the top of the Canyon where you can see the Gulf to the mainland. We then went to Kailis's and brought some Prawns and had them on the seating outside. Apparently they are building a restaurant there next year. If the restaurant is as good as the Prawns we had, they should do OK. we then went out for tea with out friends who were celebrating their 44th Wedding Anniversary. A beautiful seafood platter and desert at a restaurant called Whalers. Very nice food, and great company. great end to a great day.
BOWLS
We had a game of bowls this afternoon. Some friends from the Caravan Park were also attending. Thank goodness the wind had died down a little. I also found out after the game that I was partnered with a great lady who was also a state player. Enough said, we managed to come in 4th, no prize but a great day. Les played with Mal,the president of the Club. They managed a 3rd and won 1kg of Prawns each. Considering 40 people played that day we did OK. Got back to van and had some drinks with another couple. I think we had tea about 8.30pm that night.

MARINA - SHOTHOLE CANYON RD AND BOWLS
We decided to go for a drive this afternoon to the Marina. It is only in the developmental stages but looks as though it will be quite nice when it's completed. We then went for a drive to Shothole Canyon Rd. This is a drive along the bottom of the gorge to a small picnic area at the end. There was a walk up the hill to the viewing area, back down the gorge. Very nice view. We then went back to van via the town.
Today Les spent the morning putting together a contribution for our Newsletter. As it was quite windy I stayed inside and tidied the van. This afternoon we went to have a roll up of bowls. Thanks goodness the wind had dropped a little.
VISIT TO NINGALOO @ CAPE RANGE NATIONAL PARK
We visited Ningaloo today. Our friends came with us. Ningaloo marine Park protects Australia's largest and most accessible fringing reef system. The shallow lagoons formed by the reef, and the deeper offshore waters, create a diverse array of habitats for a multitude of colourful corals and more than 500 species of fish. Many other creatures are found in the the park, including whale sharks, the worlds largest fish, turtles, dugongs, dolphins, manta rays and humpback whales. (Bob saw these but we were too late in the season) Ningaloo marine park provides an excellent opportunity to fish (outside the sanctuary zones) swim, snorkel, dive, observe marine life and relax on the beach. We were able to snorkel and saw purple and green hard coral. Also parrot fish and blue damsels and many other multi coloured reef fish. It was a really great day. Just need to stop the wind blowing so hard. We went out to Yardie Creek and walked along the river, then returned to the picnic area and had lunch. We then returned via Sandy Bay and the Oyster Stacks where we snorkel led. We also had a look at Turquoise Bay, which Les would like and Lakeside which is a good spot for beginners like ME.
RELAXING @ TIDYING VAN
Arrived yesterday and was ready to relax. The weather has been very hot and all that hunting and gathering fish at 80 mile beach wore Les out. So we are just relaxing and catching up with some friends that we had met at our last stop. We did some shopping and had a look around the area.

PORT SAMPSON
Arrived in Port Sampson around lunch time and settled in. Lovely Caravan Park right on the beach. Called in at Roeburne and booked to do a tour of Rio Tinto, Roeburne, Cosack and Port Sampson. $5 for a 4 hour tour. Excellent value and the lady who was the driver and hostess was absolutely brilliant in her commentary on the tour. WELL WORTH DOING IT IF YOUR IN THE AREA. My foot is infected due to the shells at 80 mile beach, so I am on anti - biotics and can't walk a lot, so we have stayed home and rested and I am doing my blog. HO - HUM takes more time than I thought. We will be leaving on Friday and have booked into Ningaloo Caravan Park for 1 week.
SHERLOCK RIVER
We left 80 mile beach and headed South. Aiming to get to Port Sampson but probably will take 2 days. Arrived at Sherlock River and not only did it have water, but was a lovely overnight freebie. Only 5 vans and another on the other side of the river. Close to highway, but there wasn't much traffic noise after dark. We relaxed and read by the river. GREAT!!!!!
PORT HEDLAND
Arrived in Port Hedland and did some some grocery shooping then went to Cove Caravan Park. It was very expensive, but as it was late we stayed there 1 night. Apparently rent here is at a pemium. $2000 per week in some palce if you are able to find a vacancy. Many of the workers are living in Caravan Parks in mobile homes, as a last option. Therefore not much available for the tourists. Had a look around the next dayat the wharfs and the town and then drove on to Sherlock River.

80 MILE BEACH
We arrived here in the afternoon and set up for 5 nights. It was very relaxing. If Les manages to catch some fish we'll even be able to eat while we are here. He did tell me there was nothing a long this road and to only buy what we needed. So after months I had taken his advice. Well his statement came back to bite him on the bum, so tho speak. Camping at Barn Hill and then 80 mile beach we were getting low on food. Thank goodness his fishing rod payed dividends and he caught fish on four occasions. He told me they committed suicide on the rod. Your just hang it out and the fish do the rest of the work. If it hadn't been for the weed he would have caught a lot more. We walked along the beach for about 4 kms on several occasioms and I picked up lots of shells. In fact there were shells every where. In fact I felt like a little kids again on Fairy Meadow Beach. This was a really relaxing place to stay. Highly recomend it if your coming throught this way.
BARN HILL
We arrived at Barn Hill around mid afternoon. It is a lovely quiet place. Nothing much to do but relax, and we did. Great swimming and walking along the beach. They have a Baked Dinner on Sunday night and a Band. The toilets here are very special. They have corrugated iron walls and no roof. When you go for a shower at night you can see the stars, and when you go to the toilet in the day you get a burnt head. You can take your car on the beach if your fishing, but not to drive along the beach. A great place to stay for a few days or a few months depending on your interest in fishing and relaxing.
HORIZONTAL FALLS --WHOOPEE
We had stayed in Broome, and needed to go to Derby to catch the plane at 2.15pm. It took about 2 hours to get there. We had a look around the town. Les brought a pair of sandals and we had some lunch. The wharf was very interesting. The tides here reach 12 metres, the highest tide in the southern hemisphere. Therefore on low tide you almost need a boat to get to the waters edge and at high tide it is right up on the shoreline. So is the crocodiles!!!!!! so we didn't swim. It's 35c, but the local swimming pool is closed over winter. ---OOOPS
Had arranged to leave the car at Derby Resort. The bus picked us up there at 2.30 and we drove to the airport. The Seaplane that we went took about 35 minutes. We saw the remoteness of the Kimberley's. As we approached Talbot Bay we could see the Horizontal Falls. The pilot banked 180 degrees and landed the Seaplane on the water. It was the most exhilarating feeling. We then left the Seaplane and got into a rubber hulled craft with a solid floor. Les called it the speed machine. The speed machine raced the pilot down the river. The pilot won, but we had the better ride on the water at around 40km per hour. GOODNESS THAT WAS FUN. We then went to the Horizontal Falls. We went through the narrow fall and then the narrower fall. We did this about half a dozen times or until we got soaking wet. It was the best experience. We absolutely loved it, better than any theme park ride we have been on. We spent the rest of the afternoon cruising along the river, some went fishing and even managed to catch a large fish, others sat on a large boat and had drinks and nibbles. Around 5.30 we were taken to the 12 million boat. I have never been on a 12 million dollar anything!!!! so I can't really compare this, other than to say,
it was absolutely beautiful. The owner is an ex fisherman. He was also our cook, tour guide down to the engine room and up to the bridge, where I sat in the captains chair. His wife Marie and his mother were our hostesses. We had beautiful Baramundi for tea and home made cheese cake. We then went to the stern of the boat and hand fed sharks. WHAT MORE COULD YOU ASK FOR. The owners were so friendly and hospitable and made you feel so welcome. ABSOLUTELY THE BEST TIME OF OUR HOLIDAYS SO FAR. Went to bed and slept like a log. Got up and had brekky and fare welled the owners. We then went for another ride through the Horizontal Falls. The driver of the boat was absolutely brilliant. He left school at 14yrs and went to live with his dad, who is separated from his Mum. He put his age up and got a job. Eventually he trained as a boat boat driver, and at 22yrs he is driving this boat through the Horizontal Falls. We asked him "what he does for fun?" He said this is fun!!!1!! Unfortunately this was nearly the end of the best trip ever. ALL I CAN SAY IS IF YOUR FEELING A LITTLE DOWN, COME AND DO THIS, YOU WONT REGRET IT. Our Seaplane went home a different way. We went over an Archipelago of hundreds of islands dotted over the sea floor. Arriving in Derby around 8.30am. We drove back to Broome and packed up toleave for Barn Hill tomorrow........

YACHT CHARTER- OOPS CANCELLED
Arose this morning and packed out gear to go to Horizontal Falls tomorrow with an overnight stay on a $12 million dollar yacht. We are so excited as I saw it on Getaway about a year ago and decided that if we ever came this way we would do it. SO WERE OFF TOMORROW. YIPPEE CAN'T WAIT. Lazed around the park and read.
CHINA TOWN--YATCH CHARTER--OOPS CANCE]LLED
Got up early and Les went for a walk down the beach while I did some jobs around the van. We went to China Town to go to a second hand bookshop and a look around the shops. Lots of coffee shops, clothes, shoe stores and more. There were alleys and lane ways with the original old corrugated shops renovated with a modern feel. We went home and got ready to go on the Pearl Lugger. We got a phone call cancelling due to choppy sea. We were disappointed but like Les said to her you can't control the weather. I did some reading and had a sleep while Les put photos on the computer. I made Veal Kebabs for tea and finished my Blog.
6.30AM WALK TO SHIPWRECKS
Walked 1km along the outgoing tide to have a a look at Flying Boats that were shot down by Japanese in 1941. There appear to be only 3 wrecks remaining from about eight that crashed. There was diamonds on one of the planes that were never recovered, but were rumoured to turn up later. After a 1km walk back to car we looked at the graveyard up on the hill and the BBQ area. We arrive home and did some reading and had a swim in the pool.
TOURIST INFO AND SHOPPING
We lazed around the van in the morning. In the afternoon we went to Tourist Information and got some information on whats on in Broome. Booked a Pearl Lugger Cruise on a Yacht with a net behind for swimming, on Tuesday. We then went and got some groceries. Arrived home at and cooked tea. We seem to be having lots of early nights. Its quite warm here and humidity is quite high. I think its taking it's toll on us. Fortunately when the sun sets it's cools down enough to sleep.
BROOME
We left Fitzroy Crossing around 9am. We were heading toward Derby as we have a flight booked from there on Thursday. However we decided that as their is not a lot to do in Derby, we decided to go to Broome. We arrived around 4pm and booked into Cable Beach Caravan Park. $41.50 per night. We looked at another but it was $34 and an awful site. Thank goodness it's only a week stay. We went to the beach which is only a 10 minute walk and watched the sunset at low tide. They have tides at the moment of 10 metres. We brought calamarri, fish and chips and ate it at the beach. There was a wedding being photographed on the beach. So many 4WD's it wasn't funny. They were watching the sunset and cruising along the sand.

GEIKIE GORGE AND TUNNELL CREEK
Geikie Gorge
It is supposed to be 38c today so we are off to and early start. Left van at 7.30 to do a Geikie Gorge Boat tour at 8am. The 1 hour Ranger guided boat tour travels 3km up the Gorge. The Gorge was quite different to what we had seen before. Canoes are also allowed on the Gorge, but after 4pm when the tours finish. Freshwater Crocodile live in the gorge. Although not usually a danger to people, swimming is not recommended. The river may be fast flowing after rain and at the start if the dry season. They have some walks. A Reef Walk which is along the base of the gorge. A River walk which is a 20 minute return walk along the banks of the Fitzroy River to the Sandbar, which is also a popular fishing and swimming place. 350 million years ago the gorge was an ocean. The limestone walls contain white which is the colour of washed limestone. Black which is oxidisation, algae growth. Red and Ochre which is minerals, principally iron that has been washed into the reef while it was under the ocean. The rocks are carved into many different shapes by flood waters or rain.
We then went onto Tunnel CREEK. It was partly corrugated dirt road about 115 kms from Fitzroy Crossing. The Tunnel was amazing and well worth the drive. The tunnel is carved out of limestone by flowing water. The creek once flowed across the top of the Napier range, the original course is still marked on the top of the range. Water seepage gradually enlarged fractures in the limestone until the creek reached today's underground course. It is 12 metres high and 15 metres wide and contains permanent pools of fresh water in which fresh crocodiles are found. In earlier times the tunnel was known as the Cave of Bats as at least 5 species of bats are known to use the tunnel. You must where shoes and carry a torch as you have to walk through a water. The tunnel also has stalactites descending from the roof. It was well worth the drive. Highly recommend it, if your in the area.
FITZROY CROSSING
We arrived at Fitzroy Crossing at 3.00pm Stopped at Mary Pool and had lunch and took photos of cattle walking amongst the caravans. It was a nice place, but a bit too hot for us. Continued on and arrived at Fitzroy Crossing Caravan Park and Resort. It is quite nice and has a pool. GREAT !!!!!!!!. We had a swim and then came back to the van and made a few phone calls.

TURKEY CREEK
Spent the day re-packing the van. We then had a swim and relaxed before heading to Fitzroy Crossing tomorrow. It has been about 35c lately. A bit too hot. Glad when we get to the coast. Only about 2 weeks we hope.
ECHIDNA CHASM @ MINI PALMS WALK
Left van at 8.00am and visited Echidna Chasm It was a 2km return walk over a creek bed and walking trail. The stones were a little hard on the feet. However the view inside the chasm was spectacular. You think you have arrive at the Chasm, and then you realize that you have to go further. Two ladders and you have arrived. A wonderful site. I thought the pictures I'd seen were good, however no photo I've seen could justify the beauty of Echidna Chasm. We would have to say this is the place to see if you have limited time, or energy in the heat. We then went on to the Mini-Palms Walk. We did this in the middle part of the day which wasn't a great idea. It was very hot, and we had to walk along rocks in the river bed for quite a while. It is a 5km return walk. The first part was okay except for the heat, as you were exposed to reflected sun in the river bed. The last part was quite strenuos as it was up hill. I actually almost gave up as I didn't think I'd could make the last 5minutes. Les went ahead, while I rested. He came back and said it was only a few minutes more, so I did see the Mini-Palms. I was a little disappointed for all my effort. It was a large gorge that you viewed from a viewing platform. The view of the gorge was ok but the mini palms needed a lot of attention. They were very dried out (so was I) due to harshness of the area at this time of the year. Again I think that to see this in the wet would be great. Getting in there would be the problem????
We decided that we would go back to Tukey Creek this afternoon. Arrived back at camp and had some lunch and packed up. Left at 4.00pm. We got to the creek crossing and there was a swiss guy there in a Holden Commodore Station Wagon. He asked if we could wait on the other side and check he got throught okay. Les and I were worried whether the Patrol would make ita safely. After meeting him we just laughed. He did make it throught the creek crossing, however he was a little wetter for the experience. Arrived back at Turkey Creek at 7.30pm. Very tired and a little sore and sunburnt, but thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
TURKEY CREEK
SORRY THIS IS OUT OF ORDER I MUST BE HAVING A SENIORS MOMENT
Left Kunnura this morning and arrive at Turkey Creek at lunch time. Have booked in for 4 days. Could have put van across road in fenced caravan area, but we decided to leave it in van park as they couldn't guarantee us a spot when we returned. As it's so hot we decided to leave it in caravan park. We loaded the car for out camping trip and had a nice swim in pool. Petrol is $1.65 Lt and a loaf of bread was $4.50 (frozen). They know how to charge. Caravan Park was $28.00 p.n.

BUNGLES BUNGLES
Left van at 8.00am. 50kms along highway and 53kms in on unsealed road with 5 creek crossings which took just over 2 hrs. It wasn't that rough, but lots of twists and turns. The creek crossing were a little rough as you had to descend into a rocky section and get out the other side. We arrived at 11.30 and set up our camp. We then had a rest as it was about 35c. At 3.00pm we went to visit Cathedral Gorge and Piccanniny Walk. This World heritage listed place came about in 1973 for it's natural beauty and outstanding geological beauty. A maze of striped majestic domes sweeps across the landscape, soaring 250 metres in height. A network of narrow gorges runs through these domes, creating a seemingly endless series of twists and turns through a city of rock. The range is particularly lovely at sunset as the light on domes cast a shadow of purple, reds, golds and browns. I imagine it would bebeautifulto see in the wet season as the monsoonal downpours spark natural waterfalls and create pools amongst the rocky domes. Cathedral Gorge was nice. A 3km return walk over a river bed and walking path. Some steep slopes and narrow ledges
to negotiate. We saw striped sandstone beehives, creek beds and potholes, looming cliffs, evidence of waterfalls that cascade down steep rocks during the wet season, honeycomb weathering opening into a huge amphitheatre. On our return we did the domes walk. 1km long and easy walk through the domes that wind around sandstone domes that rise from the spinifex covered sand plains. We had a short walk along the Picanniny creek lookout as well. We arrived back at our tent and cooked snags for tea.

SHOPPING AND PACKING FOR BUNGLES BUNGLES
Went shopping this morning, mostly for our trip to the Bungles. It was extremely hot again. Arrived home and packed a few boxes of food and had lunch. Spent the afternoon writing my Blog and getting ready to leave tomorrow.
RELAXING AT VAN AND BBQ TEA
Spent the day at the van relaxing. I went to a see Annie and got my hair cut. Les did some washing. Thank goodness he did as the machines had a line of 2 waiting by the time I got up at 8am. We went up for a Hamburger and Country Music. Excellent performers. We have one of their CD's. A lovely end to a lovely day.
WYNDHAM
Where's the croc Kris
We left home at 8am and headed for El Questro, along the Gibb River Road. It was 50kms of corrugated road. On the road into El Questro there were 2 river crossings. We gave a couple a lift in, as they had a Subaru and it would handle the "waves" he said. I was a one hour walk into the Gorge. The first few hundred metres were a bit warm, but then the gorge seemed to envelop you and the shade was a little nicer to continue the walk. The swimming area at the end was great. Never before have I seen such crystal clear water. The temperature was around 35c at 10.00am. We walked out and continued on to Wyndham. Les thought he would like to see what Wyndham looked like 37 years later. I think he was a little disappointed. It appeared that they hadn't built another house in all the time he was away. The swamp on the foreshore had been removed. We did find a nice park to have lunch in though. Even his old watering hole was still upright and functioning. We then went out to Marigu Billabong, a few kilometres out of town. Very similar to Fogg dam. Beautiful birdlife, pelicans, Ibus and lots of other bird species. We left there to go back to Wyndham to watch the sunset, where the five rivers meet the Cambridge Gulf. I'm not usually that fussed on views, but this was something you should have a look at, even if you go in the day just to see the view. We arrived home about 8pm. A very long day, but very enjoyable.
