BEER CAN REGATTA
Left the van park early as we were going to get the ferry from Mandorah to Cullen Bay, but the fare was $23 each. As this seemed a bit expensive we drove into Mindel Beach to the Beer Can Regatta. It was great, lots of boats competing against each other. The under 16's went first. Next the adults had their turn. There were boats made out of beer cans of every description, soft drinks cans and even one made out of slim shake cans for the weight watchers. One boat looked as though it wouldn't hold together for very long, but then again so did the crew. Sorry I tell a lie, they did finish the race, not last but pretty close to it. All the crew were very wet, too much dipping in the ocean on the way. Others were more serious and fought there way to finish first by attacking other boats that got in there way by throwing sand filled balloons, oars and even people at the other boats. What a site to watch, from the knee deep water we were standing in to get the best view. They also had tug of war, from 2 year old up to adult. Kayak racing for under 16's as well. A really great day. Arrived home and got dinner, and crashed into bed.
