We arrived at the Olga's and did the Valley of the Winds Walk first. It is 7.4kms long and is a difficult walk. The beginning is a reasonably steep and down hill which was okay, until you return, and have to do it in reverse. (UPHILL) However once you accomplished that and the decent up sheer rock face (Not quite sheer but it felt like it when I was on my feet and hands at the same time) It was quite flat once you got to the second lookout, after climbing the side of a mountain, the view was spectacular. THANKS GOODNESS! The return wasn't quite so bad except the decent to the bottom from the lookout. Then it got quite flat until the return up the steep hill. Goodness I'm going to ache tonight. However the views were beautiful.
We had lunch when we got back to car park and rested.
We then drove to Walpa Gorge Walk. This was not any where near as treacherous. We walked into a valley between 2 sheer cliffs that almost joined at the end. It was rugged and yet quite beautiful. Took lots of photos. We returned home and I crashed. Les went back to take more photos of sunset. He said it was great because of the cloud cover giving you a spectacular sunset.
Kata Tjuta (Olgas) is a conglomerate The conglomerate is gravel, pebbles, and boulders cemented by sand and mud. Most of the gravel pieces are granite and basalt and give the conglomerate a plum pudding effect. Conglomerate is also a sedimentary rock.
