"THE RESIDENCE" "GAOL" AND BOWLS

Les dropped me in town, while he went out to see a guy who wanted to play bowls, who is staying at Top Tourist. I did some shopping and met Les back at the Adelaide House which is the old hospital, but it wasn't open due to a meeting they were having. We then went to "Residence" which was built as a "Goverment Residence" but was never used for this purpose as Northern Territory was never declared a state. It was a beautiful old house with bedrooms in the centre and a verandah surrounding them on the outside. However, it was used when the Queen visited in 1964 for two days. So I did see the chair the queen had sat in, and the bathroom she used. It had pink tiles.
We also went to the first Jail in Alice Springs. The man volunteering that day was a person Les knew when he played touch footy in A.P.R. They had a good chat about people they both knew. The jail had shackles on the floor and not much else. Very dreary place. Les dropped me at van and then went to play bowls.
