TIME TRIALS FOR FINKE DESERT RACE

Time trial for Finke Desert race were held at the start/finish line of south Stuart H'gway. We arrived around 7.30am. The prologue is a timed trial to determine starting order of the event. Drivers race first and then the buggies and motor bikes. We saw one motor bike rider come off and break his leg, and a few that spun out and had to regain control of bike.
The Finke race brings many visitors to town. This may only be a sporting event, but it does retain the original mystique of man and machine racing out into the desert and coming back out in a cloud of dust to claim the king of the Desert crown. This year 496 motorbikes will hit the track and 77 buggies. The temperature today got to a chilly 9.6 degrees.
